Welcome to Villa Alegre

A house that faces the water from every room.

No lobby, no schedules, no neighbours on your sun deck. Just your people, a long table, and the lagoon changing colour all day.

Villa Alegre sits on the shore of the Lagoon of Seven Colours, a few minutes from Bacalar's town centre. Mornings start with coffee on the terrace and a paddle across water so clear you can see the sand beneath you. Afternoons drift between the hammocks and the dock. Evenings end around the grill, under more stars than you remember.

We live in Bacalar and have hosted guests here for six years. We'll help you plan as much or as little as you like.

Lastly, we especially enjoyed the fresh flowers that were left in every room, a very thoughtful touch!

The home and grounds were spotless and we had everything we needed (kayaks, beach towels, lots of local recommendations). (…) We hope to return again!

Translated from SpanishA simply beautiful place, a very big house even for the seven of us. The kayaks were a real plus and what we enjoyed most: we watched the sunrise from the middle of the lagoon.

Discover Bacalar

A small town on a very big lagoon.

Forty-two kilometres of freshwater in every shade of blue, a colonial fort, cenotes you can swim in and a food scene that punches far above its size.

The Pirates' Channel from above, a turquoise channel between the shallows
The lagoon

The Pirates' Channel

A ribbon of turquoise cut through the shallows, once used by pirates to cross the lagoon. Today it's the place to swim and float in water that barely reaches your waist.

Paddle into the evening

The honest details, before you book.

We'd rather you arrive knowing exactly what to expect.

Check-in and check-out

Check-in from 4:00 pm (earlier when the calendar allows) and check-out by 11:00 am.

All three bedrooms are air-conditioned. The living room is designed for cross-ventilation, with ceiling fans and a seven-metre lattice wall, and has no air conditioning.

House rules

No pets, parties or smoking indoors. Quiet hours start at 11:00 pm, out of respect for the neighbours and the lagoon.

Where exactly is it?

On the lagoon shore in a quiet part of Bacalar, a few minutes' drive from the town centre. We share the exact location once you book.
